Rewind to last year, Isobel Holly – a local girl aged 18 – entered into the first Bath Introduces. After winning her heat, she got the chance to play the Main Stage at The Bath Festival Finale Weekend, opening for Paloma Faith and Midge Ure. Smashing her performance, Isobel was crowned the Bath Introduce’s 2018 Winner; she had an fruitful day recording at Real World Studio and has since then taken flight with her music career.

We caught up with Isobel to see what she had to say about her experience with Bath Introduces:

“Bath Introduces 2018 was a fantastic competition to be involved in. The highlight has to be the final – held at The Bath Festival Finale Weekend, on the Main Stage. I’d never played such a big festival stage before, and being able to do this, thanks to the competition was enough, without even thinking about winning or not!

The adrenaline rush from looking across the great field of people is indescribable. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity, the best possible distraction from my A Level exams I was taking at the time!

I was also lucky enough to win a day at the incredible Real World Studios – allowing me to record two new songs. The team of people there were so friendly, making the whole process so easy, and successful. Real World doesn’t feel real… The Big Room is like the control room of a spaceship, but with the whole building surrounded by water; one of the most inspirational places I’ve been.

“I’m coming to the end of a brilliant first year at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying vocals on the Popular Music degree course. I’ve been gigging around Manchester with a new band, trying to start spreading my name across the North!

I’m so excited to release some new material soon, some of which I wouldn’t have been able to record to such a high standard without Bath Introduces. I made some fantastic connections through it, too. It’s a competition I highly recommend getting involved with and I can’t wait to be part of the judging panel this year.”
