About us

Bath Festivals is a charity that brings some of the finest international musicians, speakers and writers to entertain audiences, in the beautiful venues and spaces of our world heritage city. By creating innovative and diverse programmes, our festivals inspire and provide unique experiences for residents and visitors to Bath. We are responsible for The Bath Festival in the summer and Bath Children’s Literature Festival in the autumn, which bring the city alive with a celebration of the arts. Our year-round creative learning programme of hands-on music and literature projects gives children and young people opportunities to gain real-world experience, building their inner confidence and improving communication skills through the arts.

Reading is Magic Festival 2020: We were saddened at Bath Festivals not only for the cancellation of our Bath Children’s Literature Festival, but for all the children’s book festivals who were having to cancel due to Covid-19. We love how each year Bath comes alive with children’s authors and illustrators from far and wide and were particularly disappointed for all the school children who come to the festival that would miss out! So, we decided if they could not come to us, we would create a festival that could come to them. Just like a story our ideas grew, and we thought that if we are going digital then anyone can join in the festival fun. We created a festival collaboration of amazing book festivals from the UK and internationally to bring you an amazing schools and family programme, all free and available for everyone, everywhere. We really hope you enjoy it. Inspiration for the name came from Waterstones Children’s Laureate 2019-2022 Cressida Cowell’s key message ‘reading is magic, and magic is for everyone’. We are excited that the award-winning children’s author and creator of How to Train Your Dragon and The Wizards of Once book will play a key role in the festival. Please click here to read the latest news.
