Paloma Faith to replace Tears for Fears in the much anticipated The Bath Festival 70th Anniversary Finale Weekend

BRIT Award winner Paloma Faith will headline the Saturday night of The Bath Festival Finale Weekend of May 26-27 as an extension to her sell-out summer tour. This follows Tears for Fears having been forced to postpone their sold-out UK tour on doctor’s orders due to unforeseen health concerns. The tour, due to start April 27th in Leeds, and finish May 12th in Brighton has been rescheduled for early 2019. Unfortunately, as the festival cannot be moved, the Bath appearance has had to be cancelled. Alison Moyet remains as Special Guest and the remainder of the line-up over the weekend is unaffected.

Tears for Fears, apologise to their fans and are extremely sorry for any inconvenience caused. They look forward to working on finishing material for their first new album in fourteen years, with the hope of releasing it this autumn.

Bath Festivals Chief Executive Ian Stockley said: “We feel for Tears for Fears at this difficult time.  We know they are just as disappointed as their fans not to be able to perform at this year’s finale”. Ticketholders affected by the line-up change have been contacted to reassure them that tickets are still valid and to explain the options available to them.

In a statement, Paloma Faith said: “I’m saddened to hear that illness has struck a member of Tears for Fears, but I’m so glad that I can jump in and make sure everyone has the best time. I promise to give it my all and get everyone up dancing.”

The Orchard Media and Events Group, twice winner of the Regional Promoter of the Year in the UK Live Music Business Awards is promoting the Weekend Finale in Bath in partnership with Bath Festivals. Orchard’s director Pablo Janczur said: “We’ve acted quickly to secure Paloma, an artist at the top of her game, and we hope that the terrific new bill, which boasts some of the UK’s finest female vocalists, will prove just as popular. That plus Robert Plant and another big line up on Sunday makes it a huge weekend of music to round off the 70th anniversary of The Bath Festival.”

Paloma Faith comes to the Saturday night headline of The Bath Festival Finale fresh from her acclaimed Number 1 Gold album ‘The Architect’, which included the singles ‘Crybaby’, ‘Guilty’ and ‘Till I’m Done’. She is one of only two British female artists this decade to have their first three albums go Double Platinum in the UK. ‘The Architect’ was Paloma’s first album in more than three years since giving birth to her first child and became her first UK #1.  It features an array of acclaimed co-writers, producers and collaborators including Sia, John Legend, Rag’n’Bone Man and actor Samuel L. Jackson. Paloma will head up a strong female vocal line-up on the Saturday, including Alison Moyet and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, along with a host of contemporary artists and emerging talent.

Robert Plant returns to Bath to headline the Sunday night of the Finale Weekend. Robert Plant is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock and roll. His previous appearance on the Rec was with Led Zeppelin in 1969.After Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 he released his first solo album in 1982 and has since gone on a remarkable musical journey. His latest album, Carry Fire, was released to great critical acclaim in August 2017, following the extraordinary album Lullaby and the Ceaseless Roar from 2014. Robert is about to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the UK Americana Honours and Awards.

Robert will round off a great day of music from Imelda May, Midge Ure, Seth Lakeman and Jade Bird. Imelda is a unique Irish vocal talent, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who released her 5th studio album – Life, Love, Flesh, Blood – in April last year. Midge Ure OBE, brings a rich and distinguished musical career to the Sunday Finale having played with Thin Lizzy, Visage, Ultravox before launching his solo career.  Seth Lakeman, performing in the Big Top on Sunday, is the West Country folksinger/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who’s most recent album, Ballads and The Broken Few, was released in 2017.

Other attractions over the weekend will include a Poets Corner, a Multi Youth Space of activity zones for children and families with programmes of workshops and performances for all ages, a platform for local musicians, the culmination of our live music competition ‘Bath Introduces’ – open to people of all ages, signed or unsigned acts, across the BANES and Bristol areas – great artisan food and a plethora of live entertainment across four stages, bringing an open-air party to the city as the finale to the 17-day 70th Anniversary Festival.
