Stand-out debut novelist, Jennie Godfrey, shot straight to the top of the bestseller lists when her novel The List of Suspicious Things was published earlier this year. Costa Award-winning Susan Fletcher’s brand new novel, The Night In Question is a beguiling mystery full of unforgettable characters.

Both Jennie and Susan are full of fun and good stories – their books share themes of community, connection, curiosity and an exploration of what it means to be human.

Whether you have already read one or both of these brilliant books – or are yet to discover them – you lucky thing! – come along, either by yourself or bring your friends and join the chat!

The Night In Question is a wonderfully warm and involving page-turner’ – Clare Chambers, author of Small Pleasures

The List Of Suspicious Things is profoundly original and dazzlingly written’ – Rob Rinder, barrister and TV personality

Susan Fletcher was born in Birmingham and studied English Literature at the University of York. While taking the MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, she began her first novel, Eve Green, which won the Whitbread First Novel Award (2004) and Betty Trask Prize (2005).

Since then, Susan has written seven novels –  supplementing her writing through various roles, including as a cheesemonger and a warden for an archaeological excavation site near Hadrian’s Wall.  Most recently, she has been a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at the University of Worcester. She lives in Warwickshire.

Jennie Godfrey was raised in West Yorkshire and her debut novel is inspired by her childhood there in the 1970s. Jennie is from a mill working family but as the first of a generation born after they closed, went to university and built a career in the corporate world. In 2020, she left and began to write. She is now a writer and part-time bookseller, and lives in Somerset.
