Ever wondered what the therapist is really thinking? Or why anyone in their right mind would choose to be a psychiatrist? Bestselling psychotherapist Joshua Fletcher and frontline NHS psychiatrist Benji Waterhouse share their unique, revelatory and often amusing insights on working in mental health care in a warm, candid and very human conversation with Cathy Rentzenbrink

Filled with practical and helpful advice on various issues from OCD to panic attacks, And How Does That Make You Feel? is a revelatory, warm-hearted and enlightening volume about mental health and what really goes on at the therapist’s office from psychotherapist Josh Fletcher. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the closed door of the therapist’s office? What’s revealed there may surprise you.

Interspersed with straight-talking advice on common issues such as anxiety, OCD and panic attacks, as well as a therapist’s guide to how to find the right therapist, And How Does That Make You Feel? is darkly funny, illuminating and full of promise that a better future is always possible. It’s everything you wanted to know about therapy (and quite a few things you probably didn’t).

Unlocking the doors to the psych ward, NHS psychiatrist Dr Benji Waterhouse provides a fly-on-the-padded-wall account of medicine’s most mysterious and controversial speciality.

Why would anyone in their right mind choose to be a psychiatrist? Are the solutions to people’s messy lives really within medical school textbooks? And how can vulnerable patients receive the care they need when psychiatry lacks staff, hospital beds and any actual cures? You Don’t Have to Be Mad to Work Here explores these complicated questions from both sides of the doctor’s desk.

Joshua Fletcher, perhaps better known as Anxiety Josh, is a leading UK-based psychotherapist, specialising in anxiety, and the host of the podcasts Disordered and The Panic Pod. After being diagnosed with and overcoming severe anxiety himself, Joshua now uses his profession and platform to educate others about mental health. He currently lives in Manchester.
