The Bath Festival artists Georgie Fame, Brad Mehldau and Madeleine Peyroux included in this year’s Jazz FM Awards
The nominations for the Jazz FM Awards were announced last night celebrating stand-out artists who have carved a way forward in the world of jazz, blues and soul, recognising distinction and commending those who have made an exceptional contribution to music. This year three Bath Festival artists were included: Georgie Fame, Brad Mehldau and Madeleine Peyroux.
Jazz FM have confirmed that pioneering R&B and jazz vocalist, Georgie Fame, will receive the PPL Lifetime Achievement Award, pianist Brad Mehldau has been nominated for International Artist of the Year and Madeleine Peyroux’s beautiful album Secular Hymns has been nominated for Album of the Year. Brad Mehldau has created an extraordinary body of standards for the 21st century, drawing on great songs from the likes of Radiohead and Nick Drake to create a glorious style of lyrical improvisation that takes jazz into a new realm. Georgie Fame and the Guy Barker Big Band/Forum, Bath
Georgie Fame has played with everyone from Count Basie to Van Morrison and together with the Guy Barker Big Band they will range from classics like Yeh Yeh and Bonnie and Clyde to blues and soul, laced with Georgie’s trademark sardonic humour.

American jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux continues her musical journey with Secular Hymns which brings her special touch of emotional depth and meaning to songs ranging from Tom Waits to Jacques Brel and Allen Toussaint to Jobim.
