Bath Children’s Literature Festival 2019 Programme is Here!
Bath Festivals is excited to announce the line-up for the 2019 Bath Children’s Literature Festival, which features a cast of characters who will entertain, educate and enlighten its young audiences in a programme of more than 110 events this autumn.
This year’s festival runs from Friday 27 September to Sunday 6 October and its varied programme offers a rich mix that takes in fact and fiction, and everything from simple rhyming songs for tiny tots through to an examination of teenage life on the brink of adulthood.
Guest writers this year include:
Funnyman Harry Hill talking about his creation Matt Millz, Britain’s youngest comedian.
Bath-born Jacqueline Wilson, returning by popular demand and giving her fans the chance to buy copies of the new Tracy Beaker book ahead of its official publication date.
Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo, will be talking about their new book The Smeds and the Smoos, a love story of alien folk.
Sophie Dahl will be visiting for a chat about her first children’s book, which features the mysterious Madame Badobedah.
Former Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman explores topical themes, including the balance of power, race and class in her new novel Cross Fire.
McFly’s Dougie Poynter will be tackling another hot issue of the day, waste, when he talks about his new book, Plastic Sucks.
There will be the chance to be silly with the Great Dog Bottom Swap and Tom McLaughlin’s Funny Show, to get creative with a Shaun the Sheep modelling workshop run by Aardman Animation or learn to draw Beano characters.
Armchair adventurers can explore the magical world of Harry Potter with a special themed event packed with facts from Hogwarts, or roam the hedgerows with illustrator Jackie Morris who created acclaimed nature book The Lost Word with Robert Macfarlane. Be inspired by former England player Casey Stoney, who is head coach at Manchester United’s women’s team, or by space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock’s interactive tour of the solar system.
Alongside the new there’ll be plenty of old friends at the festival, including Elmer the Elephant celebrating his 30th birthday, a storytelling event to mark the 50th anniversary of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and the Horrible Histories gang will be back to delight their legions of followers.
So, let’s give a very warm Bath welcome to the Big Red Chair and settle in for some spellbinding storytelling this autumn . . .
