Bath’s Independent Retailers will be celebrating Children’s Literature – Get Involved!

Bath Festivals and children’s toy store, My Small World, have set Bath’s independent retailers the challenge of creating magical, inspiring and inventive window displays based on the theme of children’s literature. These displays will be in shop windows leading up to the 10th Bath Children’s Literature Festival which will see outstanding authors and illustrators such as David Walliams, Michael Morpurgo and Liz Pichon come to Bath on 1st to 9th October.

One of the festival’s artistic directors, Gill McLay, says “This year marks the festival’s 10th birthday and we not only want to give children the chance to meet their literary heroes but we also want to invite the local business community to celebrate the magic of kids lit and spark children’s imagination in a fun and creative way. What better way than (literally) giving them a window into the world of books.”

Maps provided by Bath So Maps and Colorworks showing all the independent businesses involved will be available in each store and also from Bath Box Office so that literary fans can go on a tour, ticking off each display as they go and possibly winning prizes including a Bath Children’s Literature Festival membership, along the way.

Judging will take place on the evening of 23rd September and the winner of the best indie window display will receive a £100 gift voucher for the Bath restaurant of their choice courtesy of the Bath BID. As well as kick starting the festivities, the event will give local independent business the chance to meet and mingle.

If you’re an independent retailer in Bath and you’d like to get involved then contact dawn@mysmallworld.co.uk for more information. Businesses must sign up by 20th September and window displays must be completed by 4pm on Friday 23rd September.
