A Look Back On 2024!

Oh what a year we had! Were you there when these brilliant LIVE events occurred?

The opening night of The Bath Festival back in May, the now legendary FREE Party in the City, started the festival with style, energy and literally dozens of brilliant live music performances.

A BIG thank you to all the singers and musicians who gave their talents freely to give the crowds in Bath that night such a joyful, engaging experience.

Activist and environmentalist George Monbiot lit a fire of motivation under his rapt audience. As the news broke while he was talking that Prime Minister Sunak was calling a General Election, Monbiot didn’t break his stride in continuing his articulate and passionate arguments to call for change.

Journalist Clive Myrie got a standing ovation from his sell-out audience before he’d even opened his mouth – such is the high regard people have for this trailblazing and honest reporter who has put his life at risk to bring us news from around the world.

Two audience members revealed that they were among women failed by the British legal system, but whose cases were championed by lawyer and campaigner Harriet Wistrich. Their stories, heard so unexpectedly at first hand, moved many to tears.

The shared experience brings people together. In the company of candid, funny and insightful women, Ruby Wax, Helen Lederer, Kathy Lette and Sara Pascoe we celebrated what it is to be human, as well as enjoying a good laugh.

Did you know that optimists actually live longer than pessimists? The engaging Professor of Happiness Bruce Hood taught us SEVEN simple exercises to improve our mental wellbeing and start taking a more positive outlook on life.

Scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, wearing her vast knowledge of space lightly, encouraged young women to go into STEM based careers and make a difference in the world. She also, charmingly, reminded us that we are all made of stardust.

We listened to writers talking about the art of writing, we were tempted to go and buy new books and we were treated to meeting writers face to face as they signed those books too.
The Bath Festival 2024 continued its seven-decade tradition of bringing some sublime music to some of the city’s historic and beautiful buildings.

The human voice, simple, pure and in harmony, filled every space of the ancient Bath Abbey for a truly memorable evening with Stile Antico, the world renowned acapella ensemble.
