Every week we will be spending five minutes with an author, delving into the great minds coming to Bath Literature Festival this May!\r\n\r\n<strong>Five Minutes with Patrick Gale\r\nWe are delighted to be hosting beloved author, Patrick Gale, at our literature festival this may, delving into the true meaning of home.\r\n<\/strong>Book your tickets <a href=\"https:\/\/bathboxoffice.org.uk\/whats-on\/the-meaning-of-home-trv9\">here!\r\n<\/a>\r\nWe are looking forward to Patrick Gale\u2019s new novel, Love Lane arriving in bookshops tomorrow, Thursday 26 March, giving us time to dive in and read it ahead of Patrick\u2019s appearance at Bath\u2019s beautiful Guildhall on Saturday 16 May.\r\n\r\nHere\u2019s the set up for Love Lane, Patrick\u2019s 18th published novel: 1950s Northern England. Three generations of men, two of women. And\u202fA Place Called Winter\u2018s Harry Cane has returned from Canada . . .\r\n\r\n\r\nFellow novelist James Cahill said of Love Lane:\r\n\u2018<em>The shifting perspectives, the small resonant details of time and place, the sharp observations of family life \u2013 all these give the novel an emotional force that steals up on you.\u2019\r\n<\/em>\r\n<strong>\r\nExclusive Author Q&amp;A\r\n<\/strong>\r\nAhead of Patrick\u2019s event in Bath, when he\u2019ll be chatting to fellow novelist Rachel Joyce (The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry) we spent a few minutes with one of our favourite contemporary authors to ask him a few questions to get to know him a little better.\r\n\r\n<strong>Q: What, or who, inspires your work?<\/strong>\r\n<strong>A:<\/strong> In this case {his new novel Love Lane} my primary inspiration was my family and its hidden stories.\r\n\r\n<strong>Q: What does the city of Bath mean to you?\r\nA:<\/strong> I\u2019m old enough to remember day trips to Bath when it was still a hippie hangout full of squats and communes and with stone still black from centuries of coal fires! It will always speak to me of Austen\u2019s Persuasion - a favourite novel - as I love second chance romances - but also of the green booklets in the Cambridge Latin course, when the characters came to Aquae Sulis and met a werewolf\u2026\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Q: Is there something about you that isn\u2019t widely known that you would be happy to share?\r\nA:<\/strong> I am a beekeeper.\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Q: What is the best piece of advice you\u2019ve been given?\r\nA:<\/strong> Always remember the writers who helped you start out so that you keep up the generous tradition.\u202f\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Q: If you could share just one message with our audience, what would it be?\r\nA:<\/strong> Please find space for your grandparents\u2019 letters and diaries and make sure they label every old photograph while they still remember who is who!\r\n\r\n<strong>About Patrick Gale\r\n<\/strong>\r\nHe was born on the Isle of Wight, the youngest of four children and son of a prison officer. He now lives on a farm near Land\u2019s End, with his husband, the sculptor-farmer\u202fAidan Hicks.\r\n\r\nThere they raise beef cattle and grow barley. Patrick is obsessed with the garden they have created in what must be one of England\u2019s windiest sites and which includes England\u2019s westernmost walled rose garden.\r\n\r\nYou can book to visit it with a small group most summers.
