Join Chinese-born British author, Xiaolu Guo as she talks about her new novel Call me Ishmaelle, a reimagining of the epic battle between man and nature in Herman Melville’s Moby Dick – told from a female perspective..  

About Call me Ishmaelle
In 1861, Ishmaelle boards the Nimrod, a whaling ship led by Captain Seneca. Through the bloody male violence of whaling, and the unveiling of her feminine identity, Ishmaelle begins to recognise the mysterious bond that exists between her and the mythical white whale, Moby Dick. 

Xiaolu Guo’s works include Village of Stone, A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers, and I Am China. Her memoir Once Upon a Time in the East was shortlisted for the Costa Biography Award and the Rathbones Folio Prize 2018. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
