For the first time, The Bath Festival, in association with Bath City Football Club and radio station talkSPORT, will run a day of FREE events at Bath City’s ground, Twerton Park, on Saturday 12 May.

The beautiful game will be on everyone’s lips this year as Russia hosts the 21st FIFA World Cup. Closer to home, Bath City FC recently made its loyal supporters the majority owners of the club. To celebrate, The Bath Festival and Bath City present a day of football chat, exclusive events and family-friendly activities, action and fun for adults and children alike at this footie festival extravaganza.

Around the ground throughout the day: meet the Bath City team, get involved in competitions and family activities and enjoy the food, drinks and live music on offer.

FAMILY FOOTBALL QUIZ  (12-1PM)

Pit your wits and test your knowledge against footballing super-brain David Brayley in our quiz for children and adults alike. Just buy a ticket and either come with your team already sorted (maximum 8 per side) or we’ll find you a likely looking bunch of experts. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a ticket buying adult.

OUR SPORTING LIVES: Danny Kelly in conversation with former Crystal Palace owner, controversial broadcaster and writer, Simon Jordan. (1-2.45pm)

From 2pm: Activities on the pitch start including:

*   Beat the Goalie inflatable:  Test your speed in a penalty shoot- out,

*   Appearances by first team players AND club mascot Bladud the Pig

*   Mini coaching sessions for kids – all ages!

FILM SCREENING: LOOKING FOR ERIC – WITH SPECIAL GUEST KEN LOACH   (3-5.30PM)

A free but ticketed screening of the film Looking For Eric. Ken Loach will be attending this screening and will answer audience questions at the end.  The film is centred around the escape from the trials of modern life that football and its heroes can bring for its fans. It was written by screenwriter Paul Laverty and directed by Ken Loach. The film’s cast includes the former professional footballer Eric Cantona and the former bass guitarist with The Fall, Steve Evets.

These free tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and can be booked by calling Bath Box Office on 01225 463362 or booking online.  In addition, a limited number of tickets will be available for local residents to pick up from the Bath City FC office in person, Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm or call 01225 423087 if you can’t make it during those times.

News hot off the press is the release of a further 60 tickets for the free screening of Looking for Eric, with a start time of 3pm.  Director Ken Loach is attending the screening and will answer audience questions at the end. Click HERE to get your FREE tickets!

(5pm)  – Live music from local band Saint Loe – contemporary feelgood pop with a whiff of nostalgia.

THE MEN WHO LOVE FOOTBALL   (6-7PM)

Writers Michael Calvin, Tony Evans, James Brown discuss what makes people devote their lives to the game, along with all the highs and lows. All the panellists will be signing books afterwards.
