Michelle de Kretser was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Australia as a teenager. She has won multiple awards, including the 2023 Folio Prize and has twice won the Miles Franklin Award. She was longlisted for the Man Booker and Orange Prize. She lives in Sydney.
