Each month we run a Writers Labs group with young people aged 12-18 to explore the possibilities of creative writing with writer and artist Alice Maddicott. In 2015 the group worked with Alice to create The Chancery of Lost and Found, a writing installation that explored a fictional version of Bath. The young people performed at the 2016 Literature Festival and recently published their collaborative novel: ‘And then I realised that I was lost’. If you are young writer who’d like to get involved please email us for more info.
As an Arts Award Good Practice Centre for 2014-15 we delivered events and created case studies which support other Arts Award Centres to deliver Arts Award to children and young people. As part of this we also worked with Arts Award Voice on a takeover of their site for the month of March where the theme was Literature. Members of Bath Festivals staff and workshop leaders created content, as well as young people from the Writers Labs group writing blogs and sharing their creative work. We regularly work with Widcombe Infant School to deliver Arts Award Discover to their year 2 pupils, and in 2015-16 58 children achieved this award.
Bath Festivals are an Arts Award Supporter so can support your Arts Award group with access to events and volunteering opportunities.
School Focus Group
Would your school like to work in partnership with Bath Festivals? This year, we are inviting local teachers to help us shape our future schools programme for the Bath Children’s Literature Festival. This an opportunity for teachers and staff to share your views on: the Children’s Literature Festival, how we could improve events, how we could work better together and how we can help you address areas of your School Development Plan. If you’d like to get involved please email us.
