{"id":8272,"date":"2018-07-24T16:09:57","date_gmt":"2018-07-24T16:09:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bathfestivals.org.uk\/childrens-literature\/?p=8272"},"modified":"2018-07-27T13:10:20","modified_gmt":"2018-07-27T13:10:20","slug":"creative-learning-round-up-july-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bathfestivals.org.uk\/childrens-literature\/2018\/07\/24\/creative-learning-round-up-july-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Learning Round Up \u2013 July 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since The Bath Festival in May, the Creative Learning Department have been very busy celebrating creative writing in Radstock and Frome, getting ready for Bath Children\u2019s Literature Festival in September\/October and planning lots of exciting activity for 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>WordUp! in Frome<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have worked in Frome for a whole year in partnership with Lisa Merryweather-Millard, editor of <a href=\"http:\/\/thelittlethingsmagazine.com\/\">Little Things Magazine<\/a>, delivering events, workshops and programmes in Frome Schools to support literacy development in young people. To celebrate the end of the programme we created the WordUp! Festival of Words which took place across the town on Sat 23<sup>rd<\/sup> June. Families created an animal alphabet and went on a murder mystery tour round the library, loads of young people got stuck into creating a graffiti mural. There was storytelling and writing workshops and creating a poem for Frome town all on a lovely sunny Saturday. Thanks to all the workshop leaders, volunteers and participants that took part and made our festival of words so much fun!<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Westfield Primary Celebrates National Writing Day<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the end of our creative writing project with Alice Maddicott at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.westfieldprimary.com\/\">Westfield Primary School<\/a>, we worked with the Year 6 Creative Writing Group to co-create a series of activities for the whole school to take part in on National Writing Day, 27<sup>th<\/sup> June. The pupils designed a creative writing trail, comic and story workshops which classes signed up to take part in. The day started with a gift of writing prompts that had crash landed in a tree in the playground, inspiring the children and teachers to ask Where have we come from and why are we here? The work was shared in an assembly at the end of the day. So much fantastic writing was created, well done Westfield!<\/p>\n<p><em>These projects were part of <a href=\"http:\/\/papernations.org\/\">Paper Nations<\/a>, supported by Arts Council England\u2019s Creative Writing in Schools fund.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Young Producers<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding for our Young Producers project from the <a href=\"http:\/\/andrewlloydwebberfoundation.com\/\">Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation<\/a> and the Coles Medlock Foundation. We are partnering with <a href=\"http:\/\/mentoringplus.net\/\">Mentoring Plus<\/a> to deliver the project, which will work with young people to curate and produce their own events and support them to gain skills in music production. We are busy planning the project in collaboration with local schools, watch this space for updates.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Bath Children\u2019s Literature Festival \u2013 Schools Programme<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have lots of local (and not so local) schools booked in to celebrate books with us in October and attend our fantastic author events, but it\u2019s not too late to get involved. Check out our events happening on the festival weekdays by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bathfestivals.org.uk\/childrens-literature\/whats-on\/\">clicking here<\/a>.We have 15 schools signed up for our Book Review project and children are busy reading and writing reviews so you can get some top tips on new books on our website soon.
