Masters of bringing the past to life with pathos and conviction, Hilary McKay and Emma Carroll delight critics and readers alike. In this event they will discuss the historical settings of their books and writing about ordinary lives connected by extraordinary circumstances.

Hilary’s The Swallows’ Flight is the companion title to the WWI-set The Skylarks’ War and follows the next generation of characters, spanning WWII. Emma’s The Week At World’s End is set over seven days during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

With numerous accolades and awards between them, including the Costa Children’s Book Award, both authors have quite rightly been named as writers of classic children’s literature. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to see them together.
