A concert of works old and brand new.
Florilegium perform the two winning works of the prestigious National Centre for Early Music Composers Award 2013. The programme, which also features dazzling baroque dance music, will be recorded by BBC Radio 3 for broadcast on the Early Music Show.
The NCEM Composers Award is for young composers in two age categories: 18-and-under and 19-25 year olds, and was launched on BBC Radio 3’s Early Music Show in November 2012. This competition allows young and emerging composers a rare opportunity to write for period instruments, allowing ensembles and performers of historical work to add new work by living composers to their repertoire.
Florilegium are one of the UK’s foremost period instrument ensembles. They have performed all over the world, holding residencies at the Wigmore Hall and the Royal College of Music and winning awards for their many recordings. Their ongoing project of Bolivian Baroque music recently discovered in the Missions of Bolivia has attracted huge international acclaim.
This concert is being recorded by BBC Radio 3 for future broadcast.
